  •  Clear gutters of leaves, twigs, bark and other debris which could catch fire. Remove overhanging branches.
  •  Clear all dry timber, vegetation, litter and rubbish from around the dwelling. Clear undergrowth from around fences.
  •  Clear the fire break around all buildings, usually a minimum of 10m. If possible and practical, clear a 2m firebreak between your boundary and the surrounding bush.
  •  Water the garden regularly. Keep grass around the house mown and well watered.
  •  Do not store flammable liquids around or under the house.
  •  Fit wire (not fibreglass) screens to windows, doors, and vents. Seal all cracks and eaves. Close in open eaves and the space under the house.
  •  Have hoses, buckets, plugs for down pipes and other fire fighting equipment ready. Connect a hose that will reach all corners of the house.
  •  Have a list of things that you could take if you were evacuated.
  •  Develop an emergency fire plan with your family.
  •  Report all fires to 000
