Clear gutters of
leaves, twigs, bark and other debris which could catch fire. Remove
overhanging branches.

Clear all dry timber, vegetation,
litter and
rubbish from around the dwelling. Clear undergrowth from around fences.

Clear
the fire break around all buildings, usually a minimum of 10m. If possible
and practical, clear a 2m firebreak between your boundary and the surrounding
bush.

Water
the garden regularly. Keep grass around the house mown and well watered.

Do
not store flammable liquids around or under the house.

Fit
wire (not fibreglass) screens to windows, doors, and vents. Seal all cracks
and eaves. Close in open eaves and the space under the house.

Have
hoses, buckets, plugs for down pipes and other fire fighting equipment
ready. Connect a hose that will reach all corners of the house.

Have a list of things
that you could take if you were evacuated.

Develop
an emergency fire plan with your family.
